Athletic Communications

Athletic Communications

The Athletic communications team is perfect for those of us in the communications field, anyone interested in sports management, photography, sports journalism or if you just love sports.

There is a schedule that we go by listed with all the home games. Each one of us is assigned a job for each game. The jobs range from working the camera, photography, broadcast, scoreboard, running stats and social media.

This job is good for those who are wanting to have a career involving one these. You are able to gain some experience, improve skills, get network connections, and on top of all that, you are even offered a scholarship.

Selene Gonzales, a junior here at Southern Nazarene University, found out about athletic communications through an email that was sent earlier in the semester. She takes photographs of our athletes and claims that she is “definitely gaining experience and understanding photography better.” One of her benefits from being on the team is “being able to include this on me resume and access to all of the games.”

Have you ever wondered who chooses the awesome songs at the games? Who keeps you updated so you can follow along on your social media? Who records the athletes highlights you see them share or post? What about the amazing photos taken? All of these and more are the athletic communications team, working behind the scenes.

John Haile, a junior here at SNU and the student broadcaster on the athletic communications team, says, “the entire job is experience, even if you are doing the same thing every day, every game and every moment is different.” John, enjoys getting to watch SNU sports for free and enjoying some of the perks that come with the job such as near unlimited access to sporting events and, occasionally, food.

I enjoy being apart of the team, learning more about the athletes and how the game is played. You get to work with people from different backgrounds and ages, all while improving your work ethic and skills.

As of now, all spots are filled on the athletic communications team, but if this is something you would like to be apart of, make sure to look for that email at the beginning of the year. Come join the team!
