Compassion Week at SNU

Compassion Week at SNU

This week, Southern Nazarene University (SNU) students will be given the opportunity to extend a hand to our neighbors and live out what we have been learning this semester in chapel. This time around, Compassion Week will be rooted in Luke 10:37—to “Go and do likewise.”

Description of day-by-day activities

Beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday, students will be invited to join SNU in serving at Jubilee partners, a non-profit that provides, not only after school care but an extension of education to urban youth. Being one of the organizations that SNU partners with for theme housing on campus, many students on campus already have strong connections to Jubilee Partners.

The next opportunity will be to participate in the food pantry ministries at the ROC Food Pantry. During this time, students will weigh and inventory food that will then be distributed to families in the Oklahoma City area. Students can serve at ROC on Tuesday between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

At Love Link Ministries, students will paint, clean, and garden on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Started by an SNU Alum, and currently run by an SNU Alum, Love Link Ministries has been serving in several capacities in Oklahoma City since the early 1990s.

During Kingdom Come on Thursday at 9 p.m., SNU sophomore, Rachel Williams, will discuss the anti-human trafficking ministries that No Boundaries International (NBI) provides in Oklahoma City and across the world. Rachel Williams has volunteered at NBI since her freshman year and acts as the Speaker at SPEAK House on campus, where the house girls have served in different capacities with NBI.

Description of how to sign up for Compassion Week

“I will be sharing about my personal story and how my life experiences brought me to a place that cultivated a desire in me to show love and to advocate for people of marginalized populations,” said Williams.

To conclude Compassion Week SNU, students will serve with We Are Agape at the Homeless Alliance, an organization that reaches out for long-term healing throughout the Oklahoma City homeless population. Students can participate on Friday between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Compassion Week will be Feb. 25 to March 1—this week. In addition to the service opportunities, SNU students can bring care kits to the Commons for the Homeless Alliance. To sign up to participate during Compassion Week, students can sign up here.
