Have you ever had a research project and didn’t know where to start? Maybe you need a place to study alone or with friends? Perhaps you need a laptop for classes? The SNU Library has what you need. The SNU library, located across from the Commons, houses a wealth of information and people who can help you access it.
Two floors of books and an online library are available for students to use. However, many students are not aware of all that the SNU Library has to offer. In an interview with the Research Librarian, Hallie Macom, she said “We have way more resources than you think we do.” One of these resources Macom explained, is the ability to link SNU Library to your Google Scholar. Another resource is EBSCO, an online database containing works from many scholarly fields. If either of these does not provide what you need, another option is Interlibrary Loan (ILL), where books or articles can be borrowed from other schools and libraries.
That is not all that SNU Library provides. “On top of books, a lot of students don’t know that you can check out an iPad and laptop through the SNU library” Hallie Macom continued. She went on to explain that pens, highlighters, and dry-erase markers are available for in-library studying as well as DVDs and audiobooks that can be checked out. There is also access to the library printers through Webprint and various chargers available to checkout upon request at the circulation desk. To check something out, all you have to do is bring the item to the circulation desk or request it from behind the desk and give them your student ID.
The library provides these resources and space for all types of studying. On the first floor, group study rooms can be reserved or used if available. The second floor has space for small group studying and zones for whisper studying or silent studying to accommodate to all student needs. In the silent study area, individual study rooms are set along the wall with closing doors for focus. When asked about what he would like students to know about the library, Joshua Mora, a Library Circulation Desk Student Worker, said “I would like students to know that the library is a nice quiet place to do homework.”
