On September 7, the 2023-2024 NFL season kicked off in high fashion as the defending super bowl champs Kansas City Chiefs battled against a rising Detroit Lions team. This is a time of year that brings lots of excitement to fans across the world in hopes that their favorite team will be the ones to come out on top. With this excitement comes lots of disappointment as well, as many people are left with expectations that are never quite met. These types of emotional rollercoasters are what make the sport so fun to watch, continuously keeping a buzz around the start of the season year in and year out.
Cole Mills, an avid football fan and student at SNU says, “I am super excited about the NFL season starting back up because football is a lifestyle. I eat, sleep, and breathe football. Getting the boys together and watching games all day…there’s nothing better.” If this doesn’t prove the type of dedication that NFL fans have to the sport, there’s not much else that can.
When asked who he thinks will win the super bowl this year, Cole said, “I think the 49ers or Eagles will probably win this year because they’re both built so deep.” Cole even gives credit to an improved Cowboys team, saying, “Watch out for the Cowboys too. They might be legit, and it pains me to admit that.”
Bryson Evans, another student at SNU and dedicated fan of the NFL shows great anticipation for the season’s start, saying, “I’m really excited for it because football is one of my favorite things in this world, and there is so much entertainment that the NFL provides.” As a lifelong Broncos fan, Bryson mentioned that he is confident in their ability to win it all despite their struggles in the last few seasons.
Although the NFL brings lots of debate from fans about which teams are better and how far others will make it into the season, it also comes with a lot of fellowship. Each season provides new schedules, different team rosters, and an abundance of different storylines all throughout the year, while also serving as a common ground for people who just love the game of football and enjoy watching people play it at the professional level. The season doesn’t conclude until February 11, 2024, so until then, soak in all of the football you can just as many of the students around campus will be.
