Homecoming was filled with fun for the whole community. Homecoming Week has come and gone, and many events occurred during the week. Below is a recap of some highlights from these events.
Homecoming Week kicked off with a hoedown dance at Harn Homestead in downtown OKC on Thursday night, called Howdy Homecoming. Students enjoyed line dancing, pumpkin bowling, and even a mechanical bull! There were fun, festive snacks like kettle corn, caramel apples, and hot chocolate with peppermints and marshmallows. Reese Rhodes, a junior politics and law major said the dance was her favorite homecoming event. “It is always fun to dress up and go dancing with all my friends.”
On Friday, Homecoming Week picked up steam, starting the day with the Coronation Chapel, where students and staff got to celebrate their fellow peers and students in Bethany First Church. Asa Robertson, a business major, won homecoming king, and Rouve Jacques, a psychology major, won homecoming queen.
Friday evening students, staff, and alumni got to cheer on the men’s basketball team, who won their first home game of the season by two points, 83 to 81, in the last minute of their game against the University of Nebraska Kearney.
After the basketball game, students got to enjoy roasting marshmallows, playing cornhole and volleyball together at Crimson Corner to end the day. The nice cool night and community with each other was icing on the cake for the first full day of Homecoming weekend.
Saturday morning kicked off with the annual Alumni 5k, where alumni, students, and staff ran together. SNU’s president, Dr. Newman, won the race with the school’s track team pacing him all the way to the finish line.
Saturday afternoon, students, staff, and alumni were able to delight in some more home sports, with the men’s last rugby game of the season at 11:00 a.m., and the last home football game of the season against SNU’s rivals, the OBU Bison. Several food trucks were at the game for people to enjoy including the Blue Donkey Cafe, Chey Ray’s Kitchen, Wicked Hangry, and the Saucee Sicilian.
Alivia Campbell, a sophomore physical therapy major, enjoyed the football game the most out of the homecoming events, with good reason, because SNU ended homecoming with a fantastic win of 49 to 21.
