For some, fall is one of the most highly anticipated seasons of the year. From football to feasts, fall has so much to offer. Whether you love the fall treats or activities, it is easy to find something to appreciate about the season. However, for students Seth Spruiell and Emma Long, appreciation comes easier than most.

When thinking about fall, it is common for football to come to mind. The atmosphere of a football game is a key connector to the season. For some students, like Spruiell, football is the best part of the fall. “My favorite part of the fall season has to be football. I love the chance to get to watch the games that are played weekly and even play in games myself.” For football lovers and players, such as Spruiell, fall is automatically associated with football season.

Food is another factor that plays an essential role in the fall season. From sweet to savory, there’s a wide variety of seasonal treats to enjoy. “Pumpkin bread is my favorite go-to fall snack,” comments Long. Pumpkin-flavored treats are some of the most common around this time of year. Aside from the sweets of the season, there are also those who enjoy Thanksgiving foods. “My favorite fall food would have to be my grandma’s ham. It never disappoints and is always something I look forward to,” says Spruiell. The variety of food around this time is abundant, so there is always something to enjoy.

Within the season, an assortment of yearly activities take place. Among them, carving pumpkins is highly favored. For Spruiell, pumpkin carving is the best fall tradition. “My favorite fall activity is probably pumpkin carving. It’s always fun to see the creativity, or lack thereof, of everyone around me as we laugh and carve the pumpkins.” Long goes on to say that she has “carved a pumpkin every single year.” It’s yearly traditions such as these that make the season more enjoyable.

For some students, such as Long, Halloween is the superior holiday. “Although I love Thanksgiving food, I’ve always enjoyed Halloween and the activities that go along with it.” On the contrary, Spruiell prefers the togetherness that Thanksgiving brings. “[Thanksgiving] is a chance to get together with the whole family and enjoy their presence. It’s not often for my family to get together, but Thanksgiving is a great excuse for us to do so.” For students like Spruiell who live out of state, this specific holiday is an extra special one.

Whether it’s the food, activities, or holidays, fall is packed full of comfort and excitement. The season brings something for everyone to enjoy, even if it isn’t your favorite. The anticipation and excitement for fall can be felt by many students at Southern Nazarene University, including Long and Spruiell.
