The SNU men’s basketball team recently received rings for the 2024-25 regular season after finishing with the best conference record at 22-7. I asked current team members how they felt about the experience and how hard they worked to earn that ring.
“We received the ring for winning the conference championship, which is basically winning the most games in our conference,” expressed starting guard Colby Henderson. “It was definitely hard to do. Winning isn’t easy, and being consistent is even harder. Last year we had good chemistry, we played really well together, we knew our roles, and it all came together at the end of the day. Our coaching staff is really good, too.”
When asked what SNU basketball fans can expect as the season winds down, go-to scorer Baron Bracey responded confidently.
“You can expect us winning more games the rest of the season and hopefully getting another ring,” Bracey noted. “I expect everyone on the team to play hard and bring good energy and experience for the rest of the season. My goal is to go as far as possible, and I believe we are the favorites to win.”
As an SNU student, I have personally been let down by the football team, but basketball and rugby tell a completely different story. Every year I’ve been here, both programs have produced results. Coming from Texas, I know football naturally gets more attention in the South, but I’ve always focused on SNU basketball because this team wins.
I asked both players about the difference in support between programs and how they feel about the backing basketball receives on campus.
“I think we get treated well for playing basketball,” Henderson said. “There is a lot of support on campus, and a good amount of people come out to support us at our games. The support is still growing. People want to support positive results, and that’s what we’re giving.”
With the season nearing its end, fans can expect strong performances and possibly a deep run into the Great American Conference Tournament. I’m definitely rooting for these guys, and you can too by following their schedule at snuathletics.com and coming out to support them at an upcoming game.
