Spring break is probably one of the most exciting events to look forward to when you’re feeling overwhelmed with school. You can go somewhere warm, enjoy it for a week and take a little break from school. I asked a few students around campus where they would like to go for spring break and some said to the beach, to go skiing or maybe even to escape the United States. But travel gets expensive. As a college student, it’s hard to afford a trip, especially when it’s out of the United States. One thing that will help is being on a spring break budget. There are a few things that will help you achieve an inexpensive trip:
-
Going on a trip with a group of friends instead of alone will save tons of money.
-
If going on a road trip, splitting gas with friends and having a car with good gas mileage helps a lot.
-
Sharing and splitting hotel rooms will help make the whole trip really cheap.
-
To go to a beach or out of state, you will save money if you stay at a family member or friend’s house.
-
Going somewhere in the states will be more affordable. Traveling to a different country would be too expensive.
-
Buy groceries instead of eating out a lot. Buying groceries and having coupons are probably some of the best ways to save money.
-
Limit entertainment like going out to movie theaters, going bowling, going to Pops in Arcadia, adventure park, etc. Instead, try looking for activities that are free.
One example of a thrifty trip is when I went on a small road trip with my siblings and a few friends. We all split the gas and two hotel rooms. In total we each spent $67, and our extra money was for food, activities, etc. Our trip was really affordable, and I am proud of us for not spending too much money.
There are a few websites that give some interesting and places to go. Men’s Health gives you a few tips. Also, Groupon has really good deals for hotel rooms. Finally, USA Today created a list of economic spring break destinations.
There are so many different resources for cheap spring break trips. Just be smart on how you spend money and you’re sure to have an awesome and memorable trip.
