On Thursday, November 14th, the 2024 Crimson Storm volleyball season came to an end with an overall record of 9-20. This challenging season, however, has had its benefits both on and off the court. For setter, Emma Grace Moddelmog, the season has allowed reflection and growth despite the unwanted outcome.
Teamwork is inevitably the most important aspect of the game, according to Moddelmog. “I think that going through this season has made me realize what it’s like to be a part of a team that never quits no matter the circumstances,” she commented. Although it took some time to make a connection within the team, when it was made, the team excelled. “Our group came together late in the season, but unfortunately, it was just too late to make the conference tournament,” explained Moddelmog.
Although the team did not punch a ticket into the conference tournament, the bond they created was nothing short of impactful. Moddelmog explained, “We have learned how much stronger we are together rather than as individuals.” She continued, “The record may not show it, but we had a ton of fun growing together.” The growth and friendships that were rooted in the game, made the little and big victories that much sweeter.
For Moddelmog and the rest of the team, the 2024 season was all about growth. “I have grown in many ways this season; I have grown into a new role, which was being the only setter,” explained Moddelmog. This drastic change for the sophomore helped her grow as a leader and an overall volleyball player. As a team, growth came from coming together and truly playing like a team. Moddelmog shared, “We were able to become more focused on one common goal and we found a way to put every piece of our team together.” The amount of growth from the beginning of the season to now is substantial and visible to all.
Preparation for the 2025 season has already begun. “We plan to get in the weight room and back on the court to be the best version of ourselves for next year,” outlined Moddelmog. The work put in during the off-season will positively impact next year’s season. The goal is to reclaim a spot at the top of the conference. With hard work and motivation, the Crimson Storm volleyball team will be back and better than ever.
