Places to Eat Near SNU

As college students, sometimes we are so busy studying and going to class that we forget to look around and see the amazing restaurants near us. So, in case you need a few suggestions on places to eat, I offer some choices below.

If you haven’t already tried the Mexican restaurant, Birrieria Diaz, across the street you are missing out. Being from California, I am always looking for good Mexican food, and this place is it.

If you are looking for some good pizza, Hideaway Pizza on N. Broadway is the spot. You are able to build your own pizza and customize it to your taste.

Another great place across the street is Swadley’s Bar-B-Q. Here, the prices are reasonable and the food is great. Stray Dog Cafe is another restaurant across the street from campus, and they have really good breakfast and lunch options there.

If you are craving some Chicago-style dishes, Callahan’s Chicago Dogs is worth the visit. The smash burger and chili cheese fries do not disappoint. When asked about their experience at Callahan’s, an SNU student stated, “I try to go at least once a week because it is that good.” Check online to see their hours, but it is definitely worth a try. They also have a food truck you can follow @chefdeecreations to see where the truck will be located and special deals of the week.

A friend and I recently tried Chef Dee’s Creation located on NW 36th Street, and I can’t stress enough how good our food was. I’ve been told that it is the best Cajun and Creole food in Oklahoma City, and I would have to agree.

I asked other SNU students if they had any other suggestions on places to eat around campus and one suggested Pho 3Nine on N College Ave. Now, if you’re looking for something completely different to try, there is a Caribbean Fusion Trini-style restaurant that makes some delicious jerk chicken. However, they are only open on the weekends, so you may need to look up their hours.

As blessed as we are here at Southern Nazarene University, it is also important to get out and explore. Exploring the city is important for experiencing the unique culture, history, and atmosphere Oklahoma has to offer. Finding the hidden gems and creating memories at your favorite spots are all a part of making the best of your years here at SNU.
