Powderpuff 2025: Battling the Storm, Bringing the Heat

Despite the cold, wind, and rain, this year’s Powderpuff games brought energy, camaraderie, and plenty of competitive spirit to SNU’s football field. Teams battled it out, facing the harsh weather and showing off their game-day grit. From last-minute recruiting efforts to clutch touchdowns, the event was packed with unforgettable moments.

For junior Ariana Rosales, playing Powderpuff was an easy decision. She says, “We get to play and work as a team with other girls in our year, which is not an opportunity we get all the time. It’s a fun event overall, especially with all the support we get.” Preparation for the games included team practices, game-day strategy sessions, and even play breakdowns from their coach, Karston Keene (Yagi), who sent training resources in their team group chat.

The biggest challenge, however, proved to be the weather. The first game took place in windy, rainy conditions, making every play a test of endurance. “It was so windy, cold, and rainy—we still played, so it was an experience for sure,” Rosales laughed. But when it came to the best moments, nothing beat the touchdowns. “Celebrating when we scored was such a fun feeling. I think we all got a sense of what football players feel like when they score!”

Junior Morgan Boatwright was excited to play for the first time this year, eager to get in on the action and bring out her competitive side. “I knew it would be super fun, and our coaches were awesome,” she expresses, giving a shoutout to Keene and Anthony Cox for their leadership. “They helped us focus on the concepts and formations, not just the plays.” For Boatwright, the best part was bonding with her teammates. “Even though we did not really know each other, we definitely grew closer through the experience.”

Sophomore Kenna Franks almost did not play this year—until Carter Brock convinced her to jump in. With her team short on players, they were literally recruiting people on the day of the game. “We came in as underdogs, but we rocked and rallied,” she exclaims. Like many players, Franks felt the weather was the biggest challenge, but seeing her team come together made it all worth it. “In the second half of the first game, we really started playing like a team,” she voices. Her most memorable moment? “Playing in the rain and wind while my team was dancing on the field.”

From the hard-fought games to the wild weather, Powderpuff 2025 proves that a little competition (and a bunch of team spirit) can make for an unforgettable experience.
