SNU SAAC Networking Night

SNU SAAC Networking Night

Southern Nazarene University is excited to host its annual Networking Night on Tuesday, April 1st, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sawyer Center. Organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), this event was created to connect student-athletes and other SNU students with local businesses, providing students with the opportunity to develop professional relationships and sharpen networking skills.

At SNU, the SAAC serves as the voice of student-athletes, advocating for positive change at the institutional, conference, and national levels. Recognized as a leader in the Great American Conference, SNU’s SAAC strengthens connections within the student body and collaborates with various campus organizations, as well as the broader communities of Bethany and Oklahoma City. The committee actively engages in volunteer work, partnering with local organizations to support initiatives such as mentoring at elementary schools, assisting at regional food banks, participating in disaster relief efforts, and contributing to other community outreach programs. Through these efforts, SAAC sets an example of how student-athletes can make a meaningful impact beyond sports.

Landon Hendrix, a graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration, is leading this year’s Networking Night. Hendrix, who also serves on the Student-Athlete Academic Committee representing the men’s golf program, emphasizes the importance of this event for student-athletes. “With over 60% of SNU’s student body participating in athletics, many of these students have limited time to attend career-building events. Our goal is to bridge that gap and create connections between our student-athletes and professionals in the local business community.” He is excited to make this year even more successful than last year. David Armijo, who is also a part of SAAC, states, “This is an opportunity to network yourself. You never know who you could meet, and students could find something that they never thought they would be interested in.” As preparations continue, Hendrix and the SAAC team are dedicated to ensuring that this year’s event leaves a lasting impact.

Networking Night has become an important event at SNU, with last year’s event seeing great success. This year, the goal is to expand participation, attracting more local businesses eager to meet and mentor SNU students. Attendees will get the opportunity to meet with professionals from various industries, gain insights into potential career paths, and practice the essential skill of networking in a professional setting.
