The Bible holds great importance, for it is God’s words translated into literature. Many people can learn significant history and events through the Bible that happened before Jesus was born to his crucifixion, as he sacrificed himself to cleanse us from our sins. When reading the Bible, we should take it seriously to respect God and try to learn some meaningful lessons throughout the book as every new passage reveals something different. It is also important to note that many people interpret the Bible differently, but the important thing is that the Word is being studied.
The best outcome from reading the Bible is finding verses that speak to you in your life. Bible verses are short verses from a passage that may speak to you whenever you’re going through difficult times, doubt, anxiety, sadness, etc. Each verse can say something to a person as if it was written specifically for them, and it can positively affect their mindset, mood, or motivation.
For students’ insight on Bible verses, I interviewed SNU freshman, Cody Collins, on what his definition of Bible verses was. Collins responded, “Bible verses are God’s words given to us for the guidance of our lives. It’s a friendly reminder that God’s in control of my life, and because he knows what I need, I can easily rely on him.” Bible verses are full of diverse messages that can resonate with students and provide opportunities for growth and encouragement.
Finding a Bible verse that positively motivates your life is a prominent sign of growth in God and yourself as a person. It is, however, also important to see if your personal growth with God helps influence your relationships. Collins said that the Bible has shown him how to treat others how God has treated him and that specific verses help to serve as a reminder of this. One verse Collins clings to is Matthew 6:31-33 which states, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Students can find verses that speak to them by reading and studying the Bible. However, consistently reading the Bible can be challenging while trying to balance school work, sports, and work. To conclude the interview, I asked Collins for his input on ways students can successfully apply the Bible to their lives and stay consistent. He concluded, “Memorizing verses daily is a good way to apply it to your life, and remember the verses’ significance that God has placed in your life.”
I hope Collins’ experience memorizing Bible verses has encouraged you to start memorizing your own!
