Even while the weather continues to stay blazing hot and miserably humid, the shift in everyone’s attitude has gone from summer fun to autumn thoughts. People picture this time of year and think of hay bales, Halloween and, of course, warm drinks. The vital question during this season is “What is the ultimate fall drink?”
Amidst the tidal wave of pumpkin-scented candles, apple cinnamon muffins and, not surprisingly, apple pie-flavored gum, there appear to be two primary flavors that dominate the season. Apple cider and pumpkin spice seem to rule the scene. People choose their favorite flavor and defend it above all else.
Junior Bryce Shay commented on some of his favorite fall beverages, saying, “I absolutely love pumpkin spice lattes. We have this white chocolate pumpkin spice latte at Serve and it is wonderful.”
Working at Serve, the coffee shop that is across the street, allows Bryce to see what people really want to drink during the season. “We have a caramel apple cider with chai and it is probably our top seasonal drink. Everyone should definitely try it.”
Even the SNU Coffee Shop is getting in on the change of season with a new menu of fall drinks. As people swipe their flex away, they now have the ability to order drinks like a Maple Pecan Latte, Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Salted Caramel Mochas. All to help you “fall” in love with the season.
Senior Haley Ryckman works in the SNU coffee shop. Commenting on the season, she said, “People try to order the fall drinks year-round… So during fall, people go crazy. Pumpkin spice latte is number one and falls off the shelf. Apple cider is actually in the coffee shop year-round but no one seems to know that.”
Some people think pumpkin spice lattes and apple ciders are gross and do not understand the craze surrounding these two drinks. Ultimately, each person must decide for themselves on what to order to answer the question of what the ultimate fall drink is.
