Upcoming Concerts in OKC

Heads up SNU students: if you’re into alternative rock, indie rock, indie pop or pop rock music, you’ll want to hear about some upcoming concerts right here in Oklahoma City. Walk the Moon and Young the Giant are on separate tours right now, but both will be stopping through OKC this semester to play shows at the Diamond Ballroom.

Several SNU students are familiar with these two bands and have actually seen them in concert before. Mike Vierow, junior, has been listening to Walk the Moon for a while and remembers his first time to see them perform live in OKC.

“I think students should go see them because they put on a really great show. The Walk the Moon show I went to was the most fun I’ve ever had at a concert,” said Vierow. “I like the band because they make really fun, but really thought-provoking lyrics that I can relate to.”

Walk the Moon put out their second studio album, Talking is Hard , this past December and is currently on a tour (under the same title) promoting the record. They will be venturing to the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City on Thursday, October 22nd. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at the band’s website, but don’t wait too long; the band’s popularity has grown immensely since the release of Talking is Hard, and tickets will be selling out soon.

Another band that will be stopping through the city is Young the Giant. A year removed from their last album release Mind Over Matter, the alternative/indie rock band will be playing their first show in OKC in nearly three years. Frequent listeners like Zach Lucero, a recent SNU graduate and fan of the band, are excited to hear of the upcoming concert.

“Young the Giant’s combination of youthfully energetic (sometimes seemingly spontaneous) lyrics and alternative rock drive makes for a great sound,” Lucero stated. “Their song ‘My Body’ encapsulates that energy to perfection.”

Young the Giant’s Mind Over Matter tour is hitting the Diamond Ballroom on Friday, November 13th. Just like Walk the Moon, doors for this show will open at 7:00 p.m. and the event will start at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased from the band’s website.

These bands bring an interesting alternative indie pop/rock vibe to the table that listeners of the genre will say has an infectious sound, which has earned both bands top 10 honors on the Billboard Top 200 list.

Those wanting to attend either of these concerts are encouraged to check out the band’s websites at www.walkthemoonband.com and www.youngthegiant.com . Each site has more information about the bands, their ticket prices, directions to the shows and merchandise that is available for purchase.
