The Super Bowl LIX will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. As of last week, eight teams were battling it out to make it to the big game.
Out of those eight were the Kansas City Chiefs, who were favored to make their way back to the Super Bowl for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl victory. If they make it back, it would be their fourth Super Bowl appearance in six years. Some people, however, want something fresh and new and are tired of seeing the Chiefs in the big game. This all depends on the Houston Texans having what it takes to knock them out.
The Houston Texans have been the surprise team of the season. They have a rookie quarterback C.J. Stroudhas, who helped turn around a struggling franchise. Many give credit to the mix of young talent and veteran leadership. The Texans are aiming for their first-ever Super Bowl appearance and have embraced their role as underdogs in these playoffs.
Another battle for the AFC title was the Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens. A lot of people sleep on the Buffalo Bills, but this year they have made a name for themselves and battled adversity. The Bills have been hungry to make their first Super Bowl appearance since the 1990s and finally claim the championship, though getting there will not be easy. Former SNU student, Zack Franklin, made his prediction, stating he believes, “The Bills vs Lions will be at the Super Bowl with the Lions walking out with the championship.”
The Baltimore Ravens have been another very strong force this season. Lamar Jackson leads that team as a true MVP. Many say that the Ravens also have had one of the best defenses in the league. If they make it to the Super Bowl, this would be the first appearance since 2013. Come January 26, 2025, these four teams will be down to two and will battle it out to see who the AFC champion is and who is heading to the Super Bowl.
Now, for the NFC, the Washington Commanders have shocked us all by clinching a playoff spot, fighting hard to hold their spot against the Detroit Lions. If they pull it off, it would be their first Super Bowl since 1992. Though they will be in for a battle, playing against the Detroit Lions in the dictionary playoffs will be tough. After years of so many struggles, they are looking to make history by advancing to their first Super Bowl ever. SNU senior, Noah Maidlow, predicts, “The Lions will play the Ravens, and the Lions will come out with the win.” Two other SNU students, recent graduate Jamari Johnson and senior Donald May agree with Noah that the two teams are going to the Super Bowl. Still, they both said, “Ravens taking the win.”
There is also the Los Angeles Rams vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles were the NFC Champions last year and are fighting hard to repeat that this year. Their defense remains elite, and their Quarterback, Jalen Hurts, has had a great season leading his team as a true MVP. They want to make it to the Super Bowl this year to redeem their close loss in 2023. Last but not least, the Los Angeles Rams are fighting to get their second Super Bowl victory in four years.
The road to the Super Bowl is unpredictable–anything can happen and who you think will come up on top may not. So, make sure you watch the NFL’s biggest game of the year and see if any SNU students got it right with their predictions.
