Discovering Wellness: A Closer Look at the SNU Health Center

Discovering Wellness: A Closer Look at the SNU Health Center

As we enter the colder season, it is important to know the place you can go for medications, testing, and any other needs when you are feeling under the weather. Southern Nazarene University’s Health Center is an amazing resource that is open to support the health and wellness of all students and employees. The Health Center is located on the first floor of the Webster Commons, to the left of the stairway. It provides accessible and affordable healthcare with the mission inspired by Matthew 25:39, “for I was sick and you looked after me.”

For Fall 2024, the hours of the Health Center are convenient, with several services provided throughout the week that will cover a variety of health concerns. Through walk-ins or scheduled appointments, the health center is available to help with whatever needs they can.

The Health Center’s hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The campus nurse is available Monday through Friday. On Monday and Friday, Dr. Ami Siems will be present at her allotted times. On Tuesday through Thursday, a physician assistant (PA) will be available at their allotted times. Walk-ins are always welcome, but it is encouraged that patients call the office prior to visiting to ensure the doctor and/or PA is available for them. The last patient will only be seen 30 minutes prior to close.

Traditional undergraduate students receive no charge for an office visit, as a student health fee is included as part of their tuition and fees. Employees and employee dependents are charged $30 for an office visit to see a provider, while professional and graduate students are charged $40 for an office visit to see a provider. For general office testing and medication information, tests can range from $5 to $20. Some tests that are offered are COVID, Strep, Mono, Flu, Urinalysis, and Pregnancy. They also offer discounted prices for getting your blood drawn, or insurance can be sent to the lab in order to cover this service. Most medications, if they are over-the-counter, are available for no or limited cost. Some common medications offered at the Health Center include antibiotics, steroids, and antihistamines. Prescriptions can be written as needed by either an available PA or Dr. Siems.

A resource with the availability, accessibility, and affordability of the SNU Health Center is amazing, and a great place to go in times of need. The PAs, doctor, and nurses go above and beyond to provide the health and wellness each student and employee needs and look after you as Matthew 25:36 reads out.

For more information or to schedule a visit, the Health Center can be reached at their number, 405-491-6605, or by email at, healthcenter@mail.snu.edu.
