From Serving to Making Connections: Meet Kammie Miller

The fall semester has begun at SNU, and the cafeteria employees are back to serve the student body. While the returning students reconnect with familiar faces, newcomers are introduced to both the dining hall and its staff. Among them is the cafeteria’s youngest employee, Kammie “Kimi” Miller.

Miller has worked full-time in the SNU cafeteria since last year and says she enjoys both the job and the people around her.

“The people here are always super nice, super sweet, and super helpful. Everybody is close to each other. If you need something, you can always ask them or have a conversation with them.”

For Miller, the job has been about learning and growing. She stated one of the biggest lessons has been the importance of asking questions.

“If you don’t know something, you can ask. If you don’t know where something is, you can ask. It’s important to be able to communicate with your coworkers. My previous retail job was a toxic work environment, but since working here, the environment is a complete one-eighty.” She adds, “It’s a fast paced working environment, but the people help make it to where it’s less stressful.”

Miller describes her coworkers as ‘amazing’ and she said she feels part of SNU’s welcoming community, even though she is not a student herself.

“I’m a super talkative person if you get to know me,” Miller said. “If you need someone to talk to, you can just say,  ‘Hey,’ and I’ll respond. All it takes is someone saying hello, and I’ll happily start a conversation.”

Students can often find Miller on campus during lunch and dinner hours, where she is always open to meeting new people. For those willing to say hello, they will find a friendly face and a genuine connection waiting.
