Capturing a Slice of Life: Stories in Photo at SNU

Photography is not only an artistic expression for creativity but also an opportunity to save a moment in time. SNU Creative has been gifted with talented photographers who have captured stories of students’ friendship, worship, activities, achievements, and celebrations.

Senior graphic design and marketing major, Indy Hughes, expressed her admiration for photography since a close friend of her Mom has captured personal milestones throughout her life. “In college, I met Hannah, who is now one of my very best friends, and she has been able to photograph me in some of my happiest moments ever – such as the ‘Humans of SNU’ photoshoot, and even being able to capture my engagement!” Hughes expressed. “Being able to share these moments with people who are talented in photography and who know me on a deeper level through friendship helps to portray the sweetest moments and memories, which I truly cherish.”

Photography not only allows people to express their creativity and explore a new hobby but also gives them the chance to save a moment in time that they can cherish forever. Assistant Hailee Thompson, assistant professor of graphic design, emphasized this belief. “I think it’s important to live in the moment- but capturing it means you can keep a special part of your experience forever. Time is fleeting, and I feel like photos can slow us down and show us perspectives we didn’t originally notice.”

Senior nursing major, Hannah Lindsly, shared her journey in photography, which led her to pursue her adored hobby. “My sophomore year, Hailee Thompson was looking for a new SNU Creative photography intern, and I jokingly told her that I would do it. We got to talking more about it, and then she encouraged me to actually apply. I didn’t know anything about photography, but she assured me that she would teach me and that I could do it if I really wanted to. I have now been working on SNU Creative for the past few years, and it has truly been the biggest blessing and opportunity for me,” she voiced. “Hailee taught me everything I know, and I’m super grateful that she took the chance on me and allowed me the space to grow into the photographer I am today.”

Photography is a medium that can be appreciated for its creative expression, its ability to preserve a moment in time, and the relationships it fosters. Through SNU Creative, photographers help capture a slice of the community at SNU, one snapshot at a time.
