Roller Rag Recap

Roller Rag Recap

Last Friday, our SNU community rolled into an unforgettable night of fun, music, and skating at the annual Roller Rag event. Held at Skate Galaxy, this year’s Roller Rag brought students together for an evening of dancing and fun with costumes inspired by favorite Vines and memes of the past.

For attendees like sophomore Amira Cooper-Stennis, the atmosphere of the event was both safe and inviting. “There was a place for me to hang out whether I was at the snack table, the games, or just skating,” she shares. “My favorite part was definitely recreating my memes and taking pictures with friends.”

Sophomore Ashley Lopez echoes this feeling by encapsulating the night as “incredible.” “You could just feel the energy. It was a blast roller skating with friends and playing arcade games,” she shares. One standout moment for Lopez was the commotion at the punching bag games. “Seeing all the boys compete to punch the hardest only to have one of the volleyball girls shock them was so funny!”

Regarding preparation for an ecstatic night like Roller Rag, our Social Life Lead, Eli Redinger, shares the thought process behind the late-night timing and the inclusion of unique activities like line dancing. “Everyone loves a good late-night event, especially when it is with friends and involves something they don’t normally get to do,” he says. “And who doesn’t love a good line dance? Why not bring it to the rink on skates?”

For many students, Roller Rag was more than just a regular event–it was a cherished memory in the making. “While being on SALT and Senate requires me to go to events, I still would have gone for the experience and memories,” Cooper-Stennis expresses. Both she and Lopez are excited for future Roller Rags, hoping to make this a yearly tradition for them.

With its engaging activities, electric atmosphere, and intentional planning, this year’s Roller Rag was unlike any other. Rolling into the semester at an event like this was nothing short of a success. Students left the rink with tired feet but full hearts and are already counting down the days until the next Roller Rag.
