This year, The Echo welcomes a fresh and inspiring presence to its leadership team. Jaylynn “Jay” Hyatt, a junior political science major with a minor in psychology, steps into the role of Social Media Manager with a mission to connect, uplift, and authentically represent Southern Nazarene University’s diverse student body.
Hyatt’s journey to The Echo began over a casual lunch conversation with (new) Editor-in-Chief Jose Ramos, who extended an invitation for her to join the team. That simple moment marked the beginning of a meaningful new chapter for both Hyatt and the publication.

“I hope I can use this platform to highlight the voices of each one of these beautiful students,” Hyatt expressed. “I want it to be a space of outreach—gathering insight on what students want to see and generating ideas for the future.”
More than technical skill, Hyatt brings a mindset rooted in intentionality and joy. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining enthusiasm in her work to foster engagement. “I believe the best work comes from a place of interest,” she noted. “If I can keep my headspace right, I know I can sustain both creativity and productivity.”
She describes her leadership style as compassionate and encouraging, prioritizing the value of every voice on the team. “I will always be the biggest cheerleader in every situation,” she affirmed. “This should be a positive experience for all of us.”
Her enthusiasm for the year ahead is strengthened by the close-knit dynamic she shares with her fellow staff members. “We’re already very like-minded, and I’m excited to see how that energy helps us create a space that is not only safe, but also imaginative and impactful,” Hyatt reflected.
With Hyatt at the helm of The Echo’s social media platforms, the publication is poised for a year marked by creativity, connection, and an unwavering commitment to showcasing student voices with clarity and care.
