College is a time where many students fall into unhealthy habits. Whether it’s not getting enough sleep, drinking sugary energy drinks to stay awake or eating unhealthy because it is cheaper, these habits can cause the body to gain weight rapidly. This is the time where many students gain an extra 10 to 15 pounds without even realizing. High School athletes who do not continue to play their sport in college especially struggle with unhealthy habits. Their bodies are so accustomed to working out everyday but then they stop and their bodies are in shock. It is important to keep a good workout routine not only for your health but for stress relief as well.
Southern Nazarene University provides students with access to the Sawyer Center and Broadhurst for workout purposes but several never jump at this opportunity. Some say these gyms are too small, don’t offer the equipment they would like or are always filled with athletes. It is important to find a gym that is right for your own personal goals that also fits in your price range.
Bethany actually has several fitness centers that are within miles of campus. A few of the most popular include the Bethany YMCA, Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness and Gold’s Gym. All four of these facilities offer cardio, weights and provide personal trainers for those who are looking for one-on-one service.
Anytime Fitness and Planet Fitness are staffed and open 24 hours a day, which is important for college students who are up late and too busy during the day. These facilities are also the only two that offer tanning services. Gold’s Gym and the YMCA offer child care services for students who have children or want to workout while they are babysitting.
College students, myself included, are normally unable to make much money because school is a full-time job. It is important to choose a gym that won’t break the bank. All four gyms are under $40 a month with Gold’s being the most expensive and Planet Fitness being the least. For more information on these facilities, go check them out! They are all staffed with great people who would be happy to help you get started.
