At Southern Nazarene University (SNU), there are many decisions to help prepare for the future. Believe it or not, joining a club or an organization can help. Benefits would include building a resume or developing skills such as commitment, leadership, working successfully in groups and making new friends or even sisters.
As a junior biology/chemistry major at SNU, Kayla Thomas is the founder and president of Joy Sisterhood. The vice president of the club is Bailey Reid.
Thomas shared the meaning of this organization, saying, “Joy sisterhood is a Christian female organization on SNU’s campus. It was built to create a sisterhood and bond between ladies from different diverse groups on campus.”
Thomas explained why she made this organization: “I made this club because of my mission trip to Brazil two summers ago. I was really feeling an empty place… in Brazil there really family oriented and everybody’s [a] sister and brother, so I decided to make that dynamic on campus.”
Joy Sisterhood has many activities such as a big sister and little sister mentorship as well as many community service project and prayer groups. But one special thing about this group is the encouragement that is featured between members in the organization.
Thomas expanded on Joy Sisterhood’s small groups meant to encourage members to grow spiritually. She said, “In our small group right now were talking about our prayer life and having patience with God.
At Joy Sisterhood, any female SNU students or alumni can join! Meetings are on Sunday evenings biweekly at 7:00 p.m. And yes, there will be food.
