Student Government Association (SGA) is a group of elected students that “work together in class specific councils as well as position specific councils to plan events on campus.” This group of students has 5 councils; Executive officers along with representatives from each class. There are seven positions within each council: President, Finance, Social Life, Campus Ministries, Athletic Relations, SGA Creative, and Intercultural Engagement.
So how can you get involved?
One way to get involved with SGA is simply by joining in on any SGA meeting to help plan and feed ideas to events happening around campus. You can also contact an Executive or President here!
If you are a freshman wanting to be on the elected council of students, SGA’s applications are open now! Deadline is September 4th at Midnight.
Dajia Davis, Student Body President, says “SGA is important just as any group or club on campus. It’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone and work amongst your peers. A student can gain a lot of leadership skills while being involved with SGA. It’s a great way to serve our student body by planning and creating fun events.”
Intercultural Engagement Executive, Leo Zuniga, mentions how there are endless meetings and discussions on how to make SGA and SNU feel like it is for everyone and make you feel as comfortable as possible that you can be part of! “When I joined SGA I was on the fence that first day of training, but after a few hours, I have never looked back… I definitely wish I would have been a lot more involved the minute I stepped on this campus” expressed Zuniga.
SGA is a great opportunity to get involved on campus and gives a voice for SNU students. If interested, make sure to send in an application!
