Bob Marley: One Love Movie Review

Bob Marley: One Love Movie Review

The new movie “Bob Marley: One Love” is almost like a concert celebrating the life and music of the legendary reggae musician, Bob Marley. It takes you back to his rough beginnings in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica to his journey of becoming a worldwide superstar, spreading messages of love, unity, and fighting for what is right–not only singing his truths but living them. This movie did not disappoint when it came to the music. Hearing songs such as “Get up, Stand up” and “Redemption song” on the big screen made it almost feel like you were getting to experience him live. It was a great reminder of why his music continues to inspire millions around the world.

Beyond the music, the film shows how Bob Marley wasn’t just a musician, he was a voice for the voiceless. He used his platform to fight against oppression and injustice, promoting unity and peace, especially when he held the “One Love Peace Concert.” This just shows you how he stood up for what he believed in, even when it wasn’t easy. For those who do not know much about Bob Marley, this movie gives you enough background to enjoy it as if you have been a fan forever. Many were not aware that Bob, who was born Robert Nesta Marley, was born to a Jamaican mother and a father who was a white plantation supervisor. He didn’t have much of a relationship with his father. In the movie, you get glimpses of how that may have affected him.

The movie takes you to when Bob moved to Trench Town, one of the poorest neighborhoods in Jamaica. Instead of going down a bad path, Bob leaned toward music, and got a group together, and his passion and desire led him to the right people. “One Love” also opens your eyes to the way Bob thought as a Rastafarian. He had seen the worst and the peace and love the Rastafarians spoke of was what he wanted to share with the world.

The movie also sheds light on his assassination attempt that happened in 1976. One bullet hit him and another his wife. They both survived, although people thought he wouldn’t perform. However, the movie shows you why he showed up on that stage the very next day. “One Love” captivates Bob Marley’s spirit like no other movie I have seen about him. Through all his trials and tribulations, he remained wanting to share love not only in Jamaica but everywhere. He really introduced the world to reggae music. He believed in what he sang, and that was a world at peace.

I recommend this movie to everyone. It is a great story not just about a musician, but about a man who was all about love. Not a perfect man, but one who believed he could make a difference through music, and in many ways, I believe he did. I gave some backstory, but there is so much more in the movie, and the music itself will make you feel like you are at his concert. Please go check this movie out, and you will not be disappointed.
