In the crazy world of college life, there is always one thing that students can rely on to get themselves energized for the day, and that is coffee. Coffee has accompanied students in late night study sessions, early morning classes, and everything in between. Its significance in the lives of college students can not be overstated, as it serves as both a source of caffeine-fueled energy and even a constant ritual amidst the chaos of college.
Coffee’s appeal to students is heavily based on the idea that it has caffeine in it, which will wake you up and get you ready for whatever you are doing. Some people cannot truly start their day without first taking a sip of some Starbucks coffee. You are not limited to what the Starbucks cafe offers though. You can take a sip of some of your own coffee, made in the comfort of your own dorm. With dorm coffee, it is cheaper and perfected to exactly what you want. With Starbucks coffee, your range is a lot larger, as you can order so many different combinations, but it can come with a rather substantial expense.
One thing that a lot of students do not take into account is that drinking too much coffee can be harmful. Students will drink coffee three to four times a day, and then wonder why they cannot sleep at night. The best way to make sure that you are energized is by getting plenty of sleep. Coffee is here for those special moments such as when you are staying up late studying for a midterm exam, waking up at 6 am for football practice, or trying to stay awake during chapel. However, it should not be what you depend on to get through each day.
I asked some students if they drink coffee and their reason for doing so. SNU student, Dakota Sheffield, states, “I do not normally drink coffee, but when I do it is because I have early classes, and I do not want to fall asleep.” Caden Humphries adds, “I drink coffee a lot more than I should. I drink it because it gives me energy but also because it tastes really good.”
Coffee has been around for a long time, and students have the privilege of being able to buy it at the coffee shop or make it in the comfort of their own dorm. One thing is clear though, and that is that coffee is here to energize you and get you through some of those difficult days in a delicious way.
