COM2MEX- An SNU Missions Tradition

COM2MEX- An SNU Missions Tradition

Every winter season, Southern Nazarene University (SNU) sends a group of students to Mexico on the Com2Mex team. The goal is to go and help those in need while also gaining experience and learning how to love others more. After 31 years of SNU teams going to Mexico,  there have been many stories shared over the years. From the 1989 student trip, Commission Unto Mexico, to COM2MEX, there have been so many cross-cultural experiences over the years.

While the 2019-2020 team trip will be going to Chihuahua, Mexico, there have been many cities that SNU students have been to. For the trip last year, groups from six different states met and served in Guadalajara. Team members helped to provide free medical care, conduct sports camps, held a Vacation Bible School for children and helped to complete construction on several different facilities. SNU’s team also featured a medical team and helped at several locations to aid Mexican physicians and health care workers. There were even projects focused to help local parks.

This year the Com2Mex trip will be to Chihuahua, Mexico from December 27, 2019, to January 2, 2020. Since the trip is from El Paso there will be ground transportation so there is no cap on the number participating! The cost of the trip is $595 but students can receive a $150 discount on the balance after the $100 deposit. The cost includes transportation to Chihuahua, hotel costs and meals. The registration and deposit deadline is due October 1.

The trip is not limited to students! COM2MEX is a perfect opportunity for students, faculty, staff and family to serve side by side. Team leaders will be Nazarene Global Missionaries Roberto and Rhesa Rodriguez. These SNU alumni will be coordinating activities and ministries throughout the trip.

Going on this trip gives team members the chance to work alongside several Nazarene churches that are local to Chihuahua as well as people of all ages. When you sign up feel free to include your preferences for the preferred area of ministry to work with. Some groups will include VBS, soccer teams, basketball teams, medical clinics, and more.

Not only is Chihuahua, Mexico a city that has many areas of need, but this is an opportunity to learn, grow, and fellowship with others. COM2MEX has many years of making a difference in the lives of those in Mexico and this will be another year to do so.

Go to snu.edu/mexico for more details about the trip. Remember, the deadline is October 1, 2019, and that is also the due date for the deposit of $100. Current SNU students will receive a $150 discount after making their deposit. Consider going on this trip and making a difference not only in the lives of those in Chihuahua but also in your own.
