The Best Christmas Movies According to SNU Students

The holiday season is upon us and what better way to usher in the festive season than by indulging in the magic of Christmas movies? From timeless classics to modern favorites, the world of cinema offers a variety of options to suit every taste for all ages. It can either be a touch of nostalgia or just a fun family tradition. These movies warm our hearts and are timeless, which is why we always go back to them every holiday season. So, here are some of the best Christmas movies you should watch this holiday season.

“Home Alone” is a holiday classic that follows the misadventures of young Kevin McCallister as he defends his home against burglars, showcasing a blend of comedy and heartwarming moments. This movie is a favorite of Abbie Jiles. “I loved it as a kid, and I still love it to this day. It just puts me in the mood for Christmas, and it still makes me laugh. This is why I think it’s one of the best Christmas movies.”

Some other great Christmas movies to watch are “Elf,” featuring Will Ferrell, “The Polar Express,” based on the beloved children’s book, and the romantic comedy, “Love Actually,” with its star-studded cast. All are more modern but have become classics for some to watch during the holiday season.

However, movies like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “A Christmas Carol,” and the animated classic, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” are movies that are timeless Christmas classics that also teach valuable lessons, such as the message of love and sacrifice, redemption and compassion, and giving and togetherness. What they all have in common though is the lesson of the true meaning of Christmas, which can be a powerful reminder for families this Christmas season.

One old classic Christmas movie is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” This movie is based on Dr. Seuss’ 1957 children’s book, starring Jim Carrey. This is SNU student Emmanuel Obinna’s favorite Christmas movie, who says, “Who hasn’t seen this movie? It’s a cult classic, and it’s hilarious. I think it’s the best Christmas movie because anyone can watch this movie and enjoy it, and the music in the movie is extremely memorable.”

All these movies offer memorable and heartwarming moments that bring audiences back to them, year after year. However, in the grand tradition of watching holiday movies during the Christmas season, these classic films will bring laughter, warmth, and joy to your households, leading to memories that will last a lifetime. These movies truly are the gift that keeps on giving, year after year.
