The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is an emotional and educational experience that is worth going to. It remembers the tragic events of April 19, 1995, serving as a living testament to the resilience of individuals. As you walk through the museum’s exhibits, you will gain a deep understanding of the bombing’s impact on the community and the nation as a whole. It offers insights into the events leading up to the tragedy, the response efforts, and stories of survivors and the first responders. This experience is a reminder of how precious life is and the importance of unity, compassion, and hope even in the darkest times. 

The Oklahoma City Zoo is Oklahoma’s largest, family-friendly destination that offers fun for all ages. Home to over 1,900 animals from around the world and expansive botanical gardens, come enjoy world-class habitats including Great EscApe, Cat Forest/Lion Overlook, Oklahoma Trails, and Sanctuary Asia. The zoo provides a fantastic opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation while having a blast. Whether you engage in animal presentations or feed the giraffes, there is something for everyone to do. 

Abby Jiles, a new SNU student, explained her and her fiance’s experience at the zoo. “It was such a fun time. We got to see many animals and spend quality time together. We also grabbed dinner there and watched the sunset in the gardens.”

Surrounded by natural beauty, Oklahoma City is the ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts. Visit Lake Hefner or Lake Overholser Park for fishing, boating, and picnicking, or explore the scenic trails at the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. For more adrenaline-pumping activities, try kayaking on the Oklahoma River or mountain biking at Bluff Creek Park.

Hannah Duncan, an SNU student athlete, expressed how much she loved the trails at the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. “It was a great hike. It was very peaceful and serene. I highly recommend it.”

Oklahoma City may not be the first destination that comes to mind when planning a vacation, but it is a city full of surprises and hidden gems. The rich culture, outdoor activities and divine cuisine are sure to keep you fulfilled with something for everyone.
